  5. Congratulations on selecting a PUMA Shareware product.  At PUMA we are
  6. dedicated to producing quality software that is straightforward and easy
  7. to use so that the student can concentrate on mastering the lessons.  You
  8. can master the program in less than 5 minutes and will not find lots of
  9. switches or options to learn.

  11. State STUFF will teach you state capitols, birds, flowers, trees, nicknames,
  12. and other facts such as statehood date and 1990 population.  It is fashioned
  13. around the question and answer format of FLASHCARDS.

  21. Getting started:
  22.  
  23. At startup you will be given a choice of starting level (1 - 5).  Start with
  24. level 1 and then select level 2 after mastering it.
  25.  
  26. In some lessons where the facts are unique to a state, such as capitols,
  27. you will be given an option of inputting the state or the fact.  It will
  28. be easier if you start with the state input and later try fact input.
  29.  
  30. The only other thing you need to know is how to get out of the program if
  31. you want to return to the operating system.  That's easy, press <CTRL e>
  32. followed by <Enter>.
  33.  
  34. So you start up and are presented with a question, and you haven't got a
  35. clue.  Take a wild guess or just press the enter key.  FLASHCARD will beep
  36. and display the correct "Answer" above your input.  The cursor then travels
  37. to the upper right corner of the screen where it waits for you to <hit any
  38. key>.  Note the difference between your input and the correct answer and
  39. then bump a key for the next question.

  41. You will likely strike out 10 or more  times before you complete the set
  42. successfully.  When you make a error, the question will repeat after a few
  43. times.

  45. In each lesson, the student is presented with 5 sets of 10 cards.  Each set
  46. is called a level and the program randomly selects from the 10 cards, 50
  47. times.  The object is to complete the 50 questions without incurring more
  48. that two errors (three "Strikes" and you're out).  If you get the third
  49. strike, the high score is updated and you start over.  Typically you would
  50. start with level one and repeat it until you have "Successfully" completed
  51. it 10 times.

  53. At level two, you will be presented with a second set of 10 cards.  At level
  54. two you work your way through the 2nd set and then the first set (you
  55. already know these), until you have completed both sets "Successfully"
  56. 10 times.

  58. By the time you get to level 5 you will work your way from level 5 to level
  59. 4 to level 3 to level 2 to level 1.  As you progress through the series, the
  60. questions seem easier.

  66. When you have mastered lesson 1 continue with lesson 2.  I like to go back
  67. and review all previous lessons after completing a lesson.  The repetition
  68. and review will quickly make these facts yours to command.

  72. State STUFF is "NOT" free software.  It is marketed under the
  73. Shareware concept which gives you a chance to try before buying it.  You
  74. may use State STUFF on a trial basis for 30 days, after which you
  75. are obligated to register this software or pass it on to a friend.

  77. Most shareware downloaded is a limited version and registration yields the
  78. complete program with all the bells and whistles.  This is not true of
  79. State STUFF.  The program you have in your possession is the complete
  80. and up to date version.  Registration permits your use of this program
  81. beyond the trial period and gives you the satisfaction of contributing to
  82. the development of other educational products.

  85. characterized by low overhead and low prices and has the ultimate
  86. guarantee -- If you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.  We hope
