PUMA Shareware
Presents:
State STUFF - FLASHCARDS
Congratulations on selecting a PUMA Shareware product. At PUMA we are
dedicated to producing quality software that is straightforward and easy
to use so that the student can concentrate on mastering the lessons. You
can master the program in less than 5 minutes and will not find lots of
switches or options to learn.
State STUFF will teach you state capitols, birds, flowers, trees, nicknames,
and other facts such as statehood date and 1990 population. It is fashioned
around the question and answer format of FLASHCARDS.
To run the first lesson, enter: CAPITOL1
Other lessons are: BIRDS2, FLOWERS3, TREES4, NICKNAM5,STHOOD6, POPULAT7
Documentation: README.TEXT
Getting started:
At startup you will be given a choice of starting level (1 - 5). Start with
level 1 and then select level 2 after mastering it.
In some lessons where the facts are unique to a state, such as capitols,
you will be given an option of inputting the state or the fact. It will
be easier if you start with the state input and later try fact input.
The only other thing you need to know is how to get out of the program if
you want to return to the operating system. That's easy, press <CTRL e>
followed by <Enter>.
So you start up and are presented with a question, and you haven't got a
clue. Take a wild guess or just press the enter key. FLASHCARD will beep
and display the correct "Answer" above your input. The cursor then travels
to the upper right corner of the screen where it waits for you to <hit any
key>. Note the difference between your input and the correct answer and
then bump a key for the next question.
You will likely strike out 10 or more times before you complete the set
successfully. When you make a error, the question will repeat after a few
times.
In each lesson, the student is presented with 5 sets of 10 cards. Each set
is called a level and the program randomly selects from the 10 cards, 50
times. The object is to complete the 50 questions without incurring more
that two errors (three "Strikes" and you're out). If you get the third
strike, the high score is updated and you start over. Typically you would
start with level one and repeat it until you have "Successfully" completed
it 10 times.
At level two, you will be presented with a second set of 10 cards. At level
two you work your way through the 2nd set and then the first set (you
already know these), until you have completed both sets "Successfully"
10 times.
By the time you get to level 5 you will work your way from level 5 to level
4 to level 3 to level 2 to level 1. As you progress through the series, the
questions seem easier.
Review:
When you have mastered lesson 1 continue with lesson 2. I like to go back
and review all previous lessons after completing a lesson. The repetition
and review will quickly make these facts yours to command.
Shareware:
State STUFF is "NOT" free software. It is marketed under the
Shareware concept which gives you a chance to try before buying it. You
may use State STUFF on a trial basis for 30 days, after which you
are obligated to register this software or pass it on to a friend.
Most shareware downloaded is a limited version and registration yields the
complete program with all the bells and whistles. This is not true of
State STUFF. The program you have in your possession is the complete
and up to date version. Registration permits your use of this program
beyond the trial period and gives you the satisfaction of contributing to
the development of other educational products.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. It is
characterized by low overhead and low prices and has the ultimate
guarantee -- If you don't use the product, you don't pay for it. We hope
you will find State STUFF a helpful self improvement tool and that
you have as much fun using it as we did developing it.
Compuserve members can register this program online by typing GO SWREG.
Nonmembers will need to use snail mail.
